Personal Care
Case packing and palletizing for personal care containers: slippery surfaces, irregular shapes and a long SKU list.
In personal care the container is part of the product: it is the face on the shelf. That gives the gripping decision at the end of the line two criteria instead of one: hold the product, and leave no mark.
Pump bottles, jars and tubes are slippery and irregular, the SKU count is high and batches are small. Cortiva ties gripper selection to container geometry and format handling to recipes on these lines.
The industry's challenge, Cortiva's answer
Bottles, pumps and jars are slippery and irregularly shaped, which makes them hard to grip.
The gripper follows container geometry, and combined vacuum-and-clamp solutions are evaluated for these pack types.
The container surface is what the shelf shows; scuffs and marks are not acceptable.
Contact surfaces are designed not to mark the container, with pick points defined per product.
A long SKU list and frequently changing promotional packs are produced in small batches.
For small batches, changeover is tied to recipes; each SKU is selected rather than mechanically set up.
Product has to be correctly positioned and oriented before it enters the case.
Vision-guided picking reads product position, and pre-pack orientation is addressed in the station design.
