Palletizing is the most labour-intensive point at the end of a line: product is stacked unit by unit or layer by layer, pallets are fed, slip sheets placed, full pallets discharged. Cortiva designs that entire cycle as one system.
System selection comes down to three questions: what is being palletized (cases, bags, pails, drums), at what rate, and how much floor space is available. A cobot cell covers lower throughput in a small footprint, while a high-level palletizer builds full layers at speed.
- Application-specific grippers: vacuum, clamp, or both combined
- Automatic empty pallet magazine and slip sheet dispensing
- Pallet patterns stored as recipes; no mechanical change for a new product
- Safety light curtains and guarding are part of the standard scope

Questions that come up when choosing a palletizing system
It comes down to three questions: what is being palletized, at what rate, and how much floor space is available. For cases, a cobot cell covers lower throughput in a small footprint, a compact palletizer covers mid throughput inside an enclosure, and a high-level palletizer builds full layers at speed. Bags, pails and drums need their own holding arrangement; multi-SKU order pallets are built with mixed palletizing.
A robot and a gripper are not a cell on their own. The empty pallet magazine, slip sheet feeding, full pallet discharge, safety light curtains and guarding are designed within the same scope, so the cycle does not wait on an operator except to replenish pallets.
The limit sits with the gripper and the pallet pattern. A combined vacuum and clamp gripper can handle different product types in the same cell, and a pattern is stored as a separate recipe per product and pallet size, so a new product needs no mechanical change.
